110703 - Animal Shelter Kennel Attendant - Bastrop, TX

(1) Full Time Position - Animal Control Officer
Pay Grade: 18, Pay Range: $11.37 to 16.04 hr
Job Summary: Ability to work alone and with other officers in enforcing the City animal ordinances and
State regulations that govern animals within the City limits. Assists Animal Shelter staff with the care and
operation of the Animal Shelter.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Answers complaints and calls for service regarding stray or lost
animals. Investigates complaints regarding vicious or dangerous animals and animal bites. Enforces City ordinances
and State laws through the issuance of warnings and citations. On 24-hour call from time to time.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to competently drive a truck and pull a livestock trailer. Must be
able to lift and carry up to 120 pounds. Must be proficient in operating a tranquilizer gun and a 410/22 rifle.
Other Aspects of the Job: Must provide proof of high school diploma or equivalent GED, and six months of
animal control and welfare experience and/or training. Must obtain a Basic Animal Control certification within
six (6) months of employment and maintain certification thereafter. Applicant must also pass a polygraph test
prior to employment.
All jobs require the applicant to pass a criminal history check, thorough background investigation, work
fitness physical and drug screen.

(2) Part-Time Positions - Animal Care Technician
Pay Range: $10.88hr
Job Summary: Educate and assist the pet owning public in all aspects of pet care. Care for stray and
unwanted pets in the shelter. Humanely dispose of non-placed pets in the shelter. Maintain records, books, and
computer entries. Assist in safely maintaining the Animal Shelter, keeping it clean and sanitary at all times.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Sanitizes all areas of the shelter. Performs euthanasia in a humane
manner. Assists in public adoption of animals. Assists in emergency calls if Animal Control Officer is off-duty
or needs assistance.
Other Aspects of the Job: Must provide proof of High School diploma or equivalent GED and six months of
animal control and welfare experience and/or training. Must possess a Euthanasia Certification within one year of
hire. Must possess and maintain a valid Texas drivers license without restriction other than Restriction A
(corrected vision). Applicant must also pass a polygraph test prior to employment.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Must be able to operate various
animal capture devices, i.e., catchpoles, traps, tongs, etc.
